appstream-index software package provides Transitional package (appstream-index -> appstream), you can install in your Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install appstream-index
appstream-index is installed in your system.
Make ensure the appstream-index package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep appstream-index *
You will get with appstream-index package name, version, architecture and description in a table
